City Electric Bike Assembly Guide
Welcome to Your City Electric Bike Assembly Guide
Congratulations on your new city electric bike! This step-by-step guide will help you safely assemble your bike at home. City e-bikes are designed for comfort and ease of use, and assembly is straightforward when you follow these instructions.
Tools You'll Need
- 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench
- 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm Allen keys (hex wrenches)
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Tire pump with pressure gauge
- Bike grease (optional but recommended)
Before You Start
Important: Carefully unpack all components and verify you have all parts listed in your packing list. Keep all packaging materials until assembly is complete.
Step 1: Attach the Front Wheel
- Remove the front wheel from packaging and inspect the tire
- Remove the protective spacer from the front fork
- Slide the wheel axle into the fork dropouts
- If your bike has disc brakes, ensure the rotor aligns with the brake caliper
- Tighten the quick-release lever or axle nuts securely
- Spin the wheel to ensure it rotates freely
Step 2: Install the Handlebars
- Remove the stem cap and loosen the stem bolts
- Insert the handlebars into the stem
- Align the handlebars perpendicular to the front wheel
- Tighten the stem bolts evenly in a cross pattern
- Adjust handlebar angle for comfortable upright riding position
- Ensure handlebars are secure but not overtightened
Step 3: Attach the Pedals
- Identify left and right pedals (marked with "L" and "R")
- Apply a small amount of grease to the pedal threads
- Right pedal: Thread clockwise into the right crank arm
- Left pedal: Thread counter-clockwise into the left crank arm
- Tighten securely with a 15mm wrench
Step 4: Install the Seat and Seatpost
- Insert the seatpost into the seat tube
- Adjust to a height where your leg is slightly bent when the pedal is at the lowest position
- Ensure the minimum insertion line is not visible
- Align the seat with the frame
- Tighten the seatpost clamp securely
- Adjust seat angle for comfort (typically level or slightly nose-down)
Step 5: Check and Inflate Tires
- Check that tires are properly seated on the rims
- Locate the recommended PSI range on the tire sidewall
- City bike tires typically require 40-65 PSI
- Inflate to the middle of the recommended range for best comfort and performance
- Check both valve stems are secure
Step 6: Battery Installation and Charging
- Locate the battery compartment (usually on the frame or rear rack)
- Insert the battery and ensure it clicks securely into place
- Check that the battery key locks properly
- Charge the battery fully before your first ride (typically 4-6 hours)
- Familiarize yourself with the battery removal process
Step 7: Display and Controls Setup
- Ensure the display unit is securely mounted on the handlebars
- Check that all cables are properly connected
- Turn on the display and verify it powers up
- Familiarize yourself with the control buttons and settings
- Test the pedal assist levels and throttle (if equipped)
Step 8: Brake Adjustment and Safety Check
- Squeeze both brake levers to ensure they engage properly
- Check that brake pads are not rubbing when wheels spin
- Adjust brake lever reach if needed for comfortable hand position
- Test that brakes stop the wheels completely
- Ensure brake cables are properly secured
Step 9: Lights and Accessories
- Install front and rear lights if not pre-installed
- Connect lights to the battery system (if integrated)
- Test that all lights function properly
- Attach any included accessories (fenders, rack, kickstand)
Step 10: Final Safety Inspection
Before your first ride, check the following:
- All bolts and quick-releases are tight
- Wheels spin freely without wobbling
- Brakes engage smoothly and stop the wheels
- Handlebars are secure and aligned
- Seat is at proper height and secure
- Pedals are tight and rotate smoothly
- Battery is charged and securely locked
- Display powers on and functions correctly
- Lights work properly
- Chain is properly lubricated
First Ride Tips
- Start in a low pedal assist level to get familiar with the power
- Practice braking in a safe area – e-bikes are heavier than regular bikes
- Get comfortable with the throttle (if equipped) before using in traffic
- Adjust seat height if needed after your first short ride
Break-In Period
After your first few rides, recheck all bolts and connections. Cables may stretch and components may settle, requiring minor adjustments. This is completely normal.
Battery Care Tips
- Charge the battery after each ride to maintain optimal performance
- Store the battery indoors in moderate temperatures
- Don't let the battery fully discharge regularly
- Remove the battery if storing the bike for extended periods
